I want to remember that LOD — Level of Detail method — is when main object has a worse version that can be seen by player only on far distance from main object (for better performance).
In GTA modding we say «LODs» in meaning «LQ versions of objects or textures», and these low quality versions of textures are also replaced in HRT 1.4 on the variants in better quality.
LODs still have worse quality then main variants of the textures, because the same quality is not needed. But resolution of the LODs textures is increased in few times. Thanks to this objects will be in very good quality even on the far distance. In the same time this feature still working on us as optimization and help us to save some performance.
Also LODs and MIP maps can help to increase visible draw distance.
